Values At a planning session, participants were
asked to identify three things that they felt made
Chignik Bay a special place to live. The purpose was
to identify positive factors vs. negative factors. A
number of responses were received and are as
follows:
• Fishing
• Subsistence resources
• Freedom
• Remoteness
• Education
• Cultural values
• Children, elders and people
The scenic beauty of Chignik was mentioned several
times. Many residents value the remoteness and the
quietness of the village from the outside world,
while all of the residents who were polled value the
subsistence fishing for salmon, halibut, cod and
crab as well as other harvesting activities such as
berry picking. |
