The Chignik Bay Tribal Council would like to take this opportunity to express heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Everyone who took part in bringing the Harris Sub-regional Clinic Project to the Construction Phase. Thank you to former Chignik Bay resident, Madeline Harris, for her generous donation of land; the City of Chignik, Chignik Lagoon, Chignik Lake, Perryville, Ivanoff Bay, and Port Heiden; Far West Native Corporation, Norquest Fisheries, BBAHC, BBNA and the staff of Chignik Bay Clinic for writing letters/resolutions of support ,CE2/Northern Management for their guidance and expertise, and all the people who helped with coordinating and facilitating public meetings and potlucks. At this point, the Chignik Bay Tribal Council must acquire matching funds of $500,000 by February ’07, or the construction of this much needed health care facility will be delayed until 2008. Right now we are brainstorming for fundraising ideas, and welcome suggestions from anyone and everyone. We need your help to build this much needed health care facility which will provide primary health care service to the people in all of the communities in our sub-region. A BIG Thank You to the Chignik folks in Kodiak for organizing a ‘Fish Feed’ fundraiser to be held there later this month. |

Excerpts from a Press Release by the APCA Alaska communities will receive almost $2.5 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to fund new health centers in the Chignik region, Cordova, St. George, and Wasilla. These grants will help Alaskans, many without health insurance, to obtain comprehensive "We are delighted that these communities are now funded to establish community health centers, so more Alaskans are able to get primary health care,” says Marilyn Walsh Kasmar, Executive Director of the Alaska Primary Care Association. We worked closely with these communities by providing technical assistance with their applications, and we look forward to supporting their new health centers.” Grantees are the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation for a Chignik sub-regional clinic serving five communities ($900,055); Eastern Aleutian Tribes for St. George ($268,333); Native Village of Eyak for Cordova ($650,000); and Mat-Su Health Services for Wasilla ($650,000). Cordova, St. George, and Wasilla will receive their funding in May. Chignik will receive funding in December. |
